Book your florist ASAP!
Whether you are planning a large or small wedding, flowers are guaranteed to add something special to your day and enhance the whole experience for you and your guests, but don’t leave it to the last minute!
When to book your florist
Good wedding florists can be booked up to three years in advance although a year is more common, so if you are planning a wedding you need to start looking for potential florists as soon as you can. Ideally, I would advise brides to book their first consultation a year to nine months ahead otherwise your first choice of florist may already be booked and if you leave it much later you may not get your second, or even your third choice.
Of course, if you are having a small, intimate wedding and need just a few simple pieces then most florists should be able to accommodate you with not too much notice but a large wedding with lots of flowers, multiple venues and design input will require a lot of time and thought and shouldn’t be rushed so this is where a good lead time is a must.
Getting a quote
Don’t walk in to a shop and expect to get a quote there and then. Quotes take a lot of time to work out, every wedding is different and there are so many variables to take account of that prices simply can’t be quoted on the spot. The best thing to do is arrange a meeting or consultation with your florist who will be happy to help you work out the finer details and give you the best quote that they can. You can read more about quotes in my blog: How much do wedding flowers cost?

What to expect at your consultation
The flowers you want for your big day are so personal and special to you so your florist should be asking you lots of questions to really get to the heart of what you need and what’s important for you – it’s a creative process so the sooner you get started the better.
It’s useful if you have a few images of the types of flowers and arrangements that you might like to show your florist which will give them an idea of your style and get the conversation started but you don’t have to know exactly what you want the first time you meet – as I say, it’s a process – so don’t worry if you haven’t got a clue because that’s what we’re here for, to help and guide you, to offer ideas and suggestions.
Building a good relationship with your florist right from the start is so important because they will work so hard for you and they are going to be with you right up until the day of your wedding so choose someone you like as well as someone you trust to bring to life all of those thoughts and ideas that you talked about at your first meeting all of those months before!
Please don’t ghost us!
There isn’t a florist in the world that hasn’t been ghosted and it is just soul destroying. Whilst we don’t expect to get every job that we quote for we are human and ghosting has become far too common. It can take many hours, sometimes days, to put together a quote and create a mood board for you and this is most often done for free, so even if you don’t want to book the person who did all of that unpaid work for you, please be graceful, acknowledge their email when it lands in your inbox and thank them for their time because quite frankly ghosting is just plain rude! We are happy to help but there’s no need to be unkind.
