Wedding flower costs
The cost of your wedding flowers will depend on so many things such as the types of flowers you want, the size and complexity of the designs, the number of pieces that you need, staffing, transport, all number of things that you may not have thought of so where do you start? I would advise couples to set an approximate flower budget even if you have no idea of costs because if you know what you would like to spend, or can afford, it will give you a good starting point. You may find that your budget is too low for what you want, or even too high, but at least you will have a bar against which to measure – you have to start somewhere.
Budgeting for your flowers
It helps to know if your florist has a minimum spend so that you can look for one that matches your budget. A minimum spend means that the florist is unlikely to work with a budget that is less than the figure they have set. For example we have a minimum spend of £2,000 but we also offer a basic wedding package for intimate weddings of around £500. Some florists will offer different packages at different price points which is also helpful when trying to find the right florist for you.
You’re not just paying for flowers
As with any bespoke service, you are not just paying for the flowers, you are paying for so much more: time; labour; admin; expertise; sundry items such as ribbons and pins, pots and vases and, as with most professions, there is so much more to this job than you might think, so here are a few of the costs that will most likely be on your quote that you may not have considered.

Installation your florist will need to charge you for installing your flowers at your venue. It doesn’t matter if your venue is big or small or how many flowers you choose to have in it, there will be a charge for the time it takes the florist and his or her team to install those flowers for you.
For a large wedding this could involve several staff working on site for many hours so do bear this in mind.
Prop Hire Your florist may need to use certain props to enhance your flower displays such as pedestals or lanterns. Some florists will charge a hire fee for these – some may loan them – but most will ask for a refundable deposit to cover any damage or un-returned items. Most florists will also be happy to source specific props for you but of course they will charge for this service.
Transport There will of course be a delivery charge and depending on the size of your wedding your florist may have to hire an extra van and driver so you could incur extra costs for those.
Clearing Out What happens to your flowers when the wedding is over? If you want your florist to come and take them away for you this can be done either on the night of the wedding or preferably the next day. Some venues are happy for suppliers to come back the day after the wedding whilst others insist on clearing out the same day. Either way, this is a service that you can expect to be charged for. Of course, you may be able to arrange for friends and family to do this for you, it really depends on how many flowers you have and what you want to do with them after the wedding.
So how much will your wedding flowers cost? There’s no simple answer. Charges will vary from florist to florist and depend on all of the above – and more. I would advise getting at least two or three quotes and try not to let your decision be totally influenced by budget because cheapest is not necessarily the best.
For me personally the most important thing is that I understand what the client wants and believe that I can work with them to achieve the right look and feel for their wedding day and so I would advise couples to also bear those things in mind and choose someone with whom they feel comfortable and can trust to deliver what they want on their big day. Good luck!
