How much do wedding flowers cost?

The cost of your wedding flowers will depend on so many things such as the types of flowers you want, the size and complexity of the designs, the number of pieces that you need, staffing, transport, shall I go on. It’s a difficult one but setting yourself a flower budget will give you a good starting point. You may find that your budget is too low for what you want, or even too high, but at least you will have a bar against which to measure.

It helps to know if your florist has a minimum spend so that you can look for one that matches your budget. A minimum spend means that the florist is unlikely to work with a budget that is less than the figure they have set. For example we have a minimum spend of £2,000 but we also offer a basic wedding package for intimate weddings of around £500. Some florists will offer different packages at different price points which is also helpful when trying to find the right florist for you.

As with any bespoke service, you are not just paying for the flowers, you are paying for so much more: time; labour; admin; expertise; sundry items such as ribbons and pins, pots and vases, the list goes on and, as with most professions, there is so much more to this job than you might think so here are a few of the costs that will most likely be on your quote that you may not have thought of.

Installation your florist will need to charge you for installing your flowers at your venue. It doesn’t matter if your venue is big or small or how many flowers you choose to have in it, there will be a charge for the time it takes the florist and his or her team to install those flowers for you.

And if we stay at the venue to re-purpose your flowers this will also incur a charge.

Prop hire Your florist may need to use certain props to enhance your flower displays such as pedestals or lanterns. Some florists will charge a hire fee for these – some may loan them – but most will ask for a refundable a deposit against damage or breakages.

Transport Yes, we charge for delivery and for large weddings your florist may have to hire an extra van and driver so you could incur extra costs for those.

Clearing Out What happens to your flowers when the wedding is over? If you want your florist to come and take them away for you this can be done either on the night of the wedding or preferably the next day. Some venues are happy for suppliers to come back the day after the wedding whilst others insist on clearing out the same day. Either way, this is a service that you can expect to be charged for. Of course, you may be able to arrange for friends and family to do this for you, it really depends on how many flowers you have and what you want to do with them after the wedding.

Charges will vary from florist so it’s a good idea to shop around but of course budget should not be your only consideration. For me personally the most important thing is that I understand what the client wants and can work with them to achieve the right look and feel for their wedding day and so I would advise couples to also bear those things in mind and choose someone with whom they feel  comfortable and can trust to deliver what they want on their big day.
